WHAT'S ONLINE TUTORING?
For everyone to know what ONLINE TUTORING IS, I've decided to write this blog.
Here's how wikipedia.com defines ONLINE TUTORING.
" Online tutoring is the process of tutoring in an online, virtual environment or networked environment in which teachers and learners are separated by time and space. Online tutoring, as a reflection of the diversity of the wider Internet, is practiced using many different approaches and is addressed to distinct sets of users. The distinctions are in online content and interface, as well as in tutoring and tutor-training methodologies. Definitions associated with online tutoring vary widely, reflecting the ongoing evolution of the technology, the refinement and variation in online learning methodology, and the interactions of the organisations that deliver online tutoring services with the institutions, individuals, and learners that employ the services. This form of Internet service is a classical micropublishing situation. "
You may read more about it by following this link.
As an educator, a mentor, a professor, an ONLINE TEACHER, an ONLINE TRAINER, and an ONLINE TUTOR, I also have my own definition of what ONLINE TUTORING is.
Here's how I define the term ONLINE TUTORING.
"
Online Tutoring Facts
Online tutoring is a recent evolving field. Tutors use whiteboards much like classroom blackboards to communicate (draw, write etc.) with their students. The sessions are often interactive, with both student and tutor able to participate freely via video and audio connectivity. The software includes an interactive whiteboard, VOIP and text based chat.
The internet offers sophisticated and state-of-the-art technologies a tutor may use in assisting a learner. An online tutor needs more complicated abilities and competence to be able to do a multi-task ONLINE teaching. An ONLINE TUTOR or TEACHER DOES NOT ONLY GIVE HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE BUT MOST OF ALL, SHE MUST BE A PARTNER OF THE COMMUNITY, THE SCHOOL AND THE FAMILY OF THE LEARNER IN DEVELOPING AND ENHANCING THE LEARNER'S PERSONALITY, CONFIDENCE, ACADEMIC, SOCIAL, INTELLIGENCES, THINKING, COMMUNICATION, COMPUTER, AND EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS.
A LIVE ONLINE TUTOR is a teacher who LISTENS TO HER STUDENT WHILE DISCUSSING the academic subjects to be learned ONLINE. A live online tutor is always in the ONLINE CLASSROOM to guide, interact, explain if needed, talk when needs arise, analyze, evaluate, and give the wants of the learner as well as to bring to mind pedagogical suggestions and recommendations.
The use of LIVE ONLINE TUTORS in TEACHING ONLINE is pioneered by Jean Ayende Totanes who saw the potential of developing the person's MULTI-INTELLIGENCES and PERSONALITY through internet interaction. She left her position at an International School in the Philippines just to start TEACHING ONLINE in 2006.
She found out that even the whole family of her student joins in the learning process online. They enjoy the comfort of their own home as well as the state-of-the-art technology they can find on the net. Learning is fun and much easier because of the availability of the materials and the equipment. "

Gifts Presented to Cortes
About this time many Indians came from the towns of which these two great servants of Montezuma were governors, some of them bringing gold and jewels of little value, or fowls, to exchange with us for green beads, clear glass beads, and other articles. In this way we kept ourselves fed, for almost all the soldiers had brought goods for barter, and we had learnt in Grijalva's' time that beads were a good thing to bring.

PRETTYJEAN: YOUR LIVE ONLINE ESL TRAINER-TEACHER-TUTOR!
![]() |
| Taken on Dec. 22, 2011 |
I started teaching when I was only in grade one when my teacher entrusted me to teach writing and reading to my classmates. I never thought that at a young age I had started training myself to be a real trainer and a teacher. Even when I was in high school, I was always asked to do substitution classes when my teachers were absent. Instead of taking the final periodical exams, whether the tests were on science, math, English or home economics, my teachers assigned me to be my classmates' proctor. When I was in college, same things happened. I even substituted a college professor for teaching Analytical Calculus. Oh my!.....of all subjects..not that I hate math, but what's Analytical Calculus?...I was not even an engineering student...I was just a BSE, Major in English student that time. But alas!.......it was fine..There was also a time when I was still a college student that I replaced my Filipino 2 professor. That means I taught Filipino 2 which was Philippine Literature to my classmates the whole semester. And my professor just came over during our final exam which I also organized and prepared.
When I earned my Bachelor's Degree, and graduated with the highest honor from college, my alma mater absorbed me to be one of the college instructresses. When I finished my MA, I was hired by one of the prestigious colleges here in the Philippines as an Academic Director, and a Curriculum Developer. I always seek for challenges, so when I saw the opportunities of becoming a head teacher, a trainer, and a hiring officer at an International School, I grabbed the chances and never slipped them through my fingers.
Seven months and seventeen successful teaching years have passed, here I am, as I said a master of my field, English Language Teaching and Testing, and have earned lots of certificates in ESL training, women empowerment and development from various schools and organizations after which made me completely engaged myself into educating and training people. I put up my own training centre in 2006 which affects my life and my teaching career in colleges and universities tremendously. Since I formulated a learning concept and model when I was in my graduate school, I never stopped just to be a teacher or a university professor or any of those positions that I handled, I continued developing myself until I have discovered this opportunity of putting up a NEW TREND IN DISTANCE EDUCATION WHICH I DUBBED AS LIVE ONLINE TUTORING, TRAINING, AND TEACHING.
Online tutoring these days does not ONLY pertain to a distance education, or email tutoring, or does not only confine to any websites that offer learning and teaching materials or home tutorials, and tutors to get help through emailing, but also ONLINE TUTORING means having a LIVE ONLINE TUTOR / TEACHER OR TRAINER ......that's PRETTYJEAN....... who HELPS YOU SOLVE YOUR ACADEMIC PROBLEMS RIGHT THERE AND THEN, and ASSISTS YOU IN DEVELOPING and ENHANCING YOUR PERSONALITY, CONFIDENCE, COMMUNICATION, THINKING, INTELLIGENCES, and EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS! So, when you need an academic, language, educational, or even personal assistance, just call me, and I'll be there together with my team to help you and guide you through your dreams.
